Right now I drive a 96' LS. So far I've basically just messed around with it hooking on bolt ons. AEM cams,AEM pulleys, CAI, lowering springs, and Tanabe Racing Medallion. The car is still way to sluggish for me. So I talked to my local import shop and they mentioned that they could convert my motor to a Type-R motor. They said that they would replace all but the engine block and they would replace everything else....Im not sure if this is totally legit it sounded too good to be true when they quoted a price of around 1,700 including install. Have any of you guys heard anything about this? Please tell me if you know about it or if its total bs.

SOunds like complete and total crap. I am sorry but Pistons, Cams, ECU, the Head, the wiring for all the VTEC, and even then you wouldn't have the Tranny. The only way they could do that is if they are stealing the Type-R parts, and even then the labor quote would seem too good to be true. I am thinking (especially if they were reusing the block) it would be at least a solid 60 hours worth of labor to do that job. I wouldn't buy it unless you can talk to legit people who have had it done by the same shop.

I would shop around for other quotes before laying down your money on this shop. I too was planning to convert my LS to a Type R but found out that it would cost too much to do so. So I just opted for the JRSC. A VTEC swap for my car would cost me around $3500-$4000 with all the necessary parts. A brand new Type R swap would cost me around $10,000! So there's no way that their offer can be legit.

Sell the car. Wait for a good price, then get into something with more performance. You've got too much to do to get an LS up to the level you want.

I agree with lundgren. A friend of mine had a civic that had a SC on it plus in,hdr,exh,FP..... With the SOHC he was not getting the numbers he wanted. He could not even hang with me and at the time I had an intake and that was it. He sold it and know has a 2000 yellow type R and my father is hooking him up with a Garrett Turbo. He'll KILL ME!!!!

Thanks for the input,
I considered selling it for a GS-R but figured it would cost me 2000-3000 dollars if I found a 95 or 96 used GS-R and got good money for mine which MIGHT happen. Im gonna go back to the shop and get a list of all of the parts that are included in the "kit". I have done most of my work at that shop so I dont know if they are trying to jip me or not. There is also another shop which gave me an estimate on putting a prelude engine in there. 2500-3000 including install. Im better off dropping one of those in there, it would make a great sleeper.
